Brenda Hoddinott
Brenda Hoddinott is a self-educated portraitist, visual artist, forensic artist, illustrator, art educator and author. Brenda incorporates primarily traditional and classical techniques into her visual art, and her eclectic styles include realism, hyperrealism, and surrealism. She prefers graphite, technical pen, and colored pencil when drawing; and her paintings are rendered with oils on canvas.
Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Brenda grew up in the small town of Corner Brook. With the aid of various learn-to-draw books, she developed a strong level of technical competence. During the late 70’s, she lived in St. John’s, Newfoundland with her husband, and two small children, Heidi and Benjamin.
In 1982 Brenda left her well established career as a portraitist, graphic designer, and forensic artist, to move to Nova Scotia with her family. In addition to resuming various facets of her art career, she began learning to paint in oils. From 1988 to 1994, Brenda began exhibiting her paintings and drawings in provincial and regional art exhibitions and competitions. She was honored with more than twenty prestigious visual art awards during these six years.
